Azalina Vs Shahrizat: Who Will Be Chosen?

UMNO party elections are expected to be very where all positions in the party are open to contest. The latest development that we have received, is the former UMNO Women’s Youth Chief, Datuk Azalina Othman Said has already offered herself to be the main contender against UMNO Women’s Chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

We understand that Shahrizat got a lot of support from the UMNO Women’s Wing even though she was affected with the National Fidlot Center that is run by her family. The women’s wing stands by her without hesitation.
Shahrizat’s is seen as a true protector of the women’s wing as she did all she can to help BN even though she was not elected in the cabinet. This surely differs with her Deputy, Datuk Karmilla Ibrahim that finally created a tantrum when she was not appointed as a candidate for BN.
Azalina on the other hand has her own way of getting attention and her personality is loved by many of the youngsters today. Azalina took an approach concerning that she can attract a lot of young Malaysian (UMNO members or non-UMNO members to defend this country. She also promised that she will ensure that the new movement in Wanita UMNO will be relevant to today’s new political landscape.

Just like Shahrizat that was involved in the so called scandalous business deals, Azalina also has some skeleton in the closet during her tenure at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. One of the most famous “stories” that is an open secret is the building of a sports stadium in the United Kingdom. The stadium was said to be worth RM 70 million was cancelled before it was done. Other than that, during his tenure as the minister of tourism, Azalina was questioned about the usage of RM 36 million of the people’s money just to build a website for the ministry.
However, it cannot be denied that Azalina has an aura of a great leader. She is a firm and brave leader, qualities that are necessary for the leadership of today.
Even if we do not understand the sentiment of the majority of the women’s wing in UMNO and they cannot even predict on who will be the next Wanita UMNO Chief.
Shahrizat maybe has a place in their hearts, however Azalina is seen as a beacon of hope that will guide them through the battle of the 14th General Election.
Whatever happens, we hope that UMNO members will make a correct choice and will not be swayed by emotion and pressure from the outside. Remember that, the party is in a fragile state and we cannot afford to make a mistake in choosing a place for those who will lead the final charge in the next general election.  The interest of the party shall be put forward rather than individual interest.
