Is PKR Contesting In The Kuala Besut By-Election?

Barisan Nasional Terengganu lost one of its state assemblymen to lung cancer, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman current state seat holder for DUN Kuala Besut left the seat vacant and a by-election need to be held 60 days from today.

In the 13th General Election, the deceased defeated PAS candidate Napisah Ismail with 2,434 majority votes.

The question is which party shall represent the opposition in this particular by election.

We heard that PKR has already told PAS their intention in contesting in the election. The reason for this particular request is because PAS failed to take over the seat in the last two general election.

Even if PAS in the 13th General Election managed to lessen the majority votes of Dr Abdul Rahman, it is not a sign of PAS strength as the Besut Parliament is an UMNO stronghold.

Besut Parliament member Datuk Seri Idris Jusuh is also the second education minister currently serving under the Deputy Prime Minister.

Will PAS succumbs to PKR’s will or will they retain their seat as it is a PAS seat and no other opposition party ever contested in the constituency.

If in the same time, PKR also has legitimate claim to try their luck in the constituency because of the 13th General Election results shows that PAS’s weak performance in the whole country even though they managed to reduce the 2/3 majority for BN in Terengganu.

BArisan Nasional would never, fight amongst themselves in the term of the allocation of seats. This is because UMNO is the only Malay party in Barisan Nasional and majority of the voters in DUN Kuala Besut is 99% Malay.
