MCA and Gerakan are two of the BN component party that failed to shine in the last general election. Frankly speaking, because of the pitiful performance of the two Chinese party was the reason that BN lost 7 of it parliamentary seat if compared with the 2008 general election.
In the last general election, MCA managed to win 7 out of 15 seats that they won in 2008. Meanwhile Gerakan only won 1 seat compared to their performance in the 12th General Election. The only seat that was won by Gerakan is in Johor, the state known for being an UMNO fortress.
Of all BN component party, Gerakan is the worst, as they only won 1 seat in the past election. Even in Penang where Gerakan was once at helm of the state government for many years, the party was totally rejected by Chinese voters.
Gerakan have since become irrelevant in today’s Chinese politics. Even though the party stated that they are a multiracial organization, it is generally known that the party is a sad copy of the MCA, and in the sense of racial composition of the party.
Thus, Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon resignation from the President post of Gerakan last May, was seen as a good start to revamp the whole party. It was rumoured that all of Tsu Koon’s men, will resign in from any party post, to make way for new bloods to lead the party.
We hope that Gerakan will increase their efforts in making sure that in the next election, they will have a fighting chance against the ever racist DAP.
Other than that, Gerakan have to strategize in exposing the lies of opposition leaders especially Anwar Ibrahim to the Chinese community. They have to gather all their resources to ensure that the Chinese voter will understand the true intention of Anwar Ibrahim.
We’ve known for a long time that Anwar and DAP is using each other to ensure the survival of their political struggle. Gerakan have to play it smart and secure their grasp of Chinese voters if they want to stay relevant in Malaysia’s political arena.
